This is what I need: Duct tape, ordinance tape, Riggers tape or 200 MPH tape.

Butler Creek web site recommends a #39, as stated above, for that size scope objective. Same is true for the sun shade as it mates perfectly with the objective barrel with no change in barrel diameter.

Good for the chap that sold me my BCreek cap, as he just pulled it of the shelf and test fitted it to the sun shade and by stroke of luck, a #39 I see now only. If different I would have fitted that thing over his head on my return.

Mine came with a sun shade and a metal cap with a hole in it. Did some not get this?

Mine came with a sun shade and a metal cap with a hole in it. Did some not get this? Early ones didn't have it, but all newer ones SHOULD have that metal cap with the hole, it's screwed onto the sunshade in the pouch. that said, some of us prefer the Butler Creek option, as instead of screwing in and out, we can have it permanently fitted, and just flip it up and down as needed. I wonder how many people will lose that metal cap LOL

I haven't had a chance to play with my new X-Sight II at night yet but I imagine with the higher output illuminator, the night picture will be sharper also.

Mine has been working great with it on at night.... Especially with the t20 illuminator. I have not had to remove it.

The the problem is with predators that have been shot at under lamps before. Too much IR is worse than too little then, as predators DO SEE IR. Most of the foxes I shoot have been lamped with visible light, and often with IR by the poachers before I get to them (I've shot three with one eye this year) so I tend to use 940nm on low power and the beam flooded to fill the FOV I got 95 this season

My primary desire, in adding this type of optic to my collection of toys, did not involve 4 legged predators.

Measure the lens housing outside dia, then google correct size of butler creek to fit it Already did that, and haven't found anyone that makes one the right size. Butler Creek doesn't make one big enough. That's why I figured maybe someone else had found one somewhere.

I think the #47 or #48 fits on the INSIDE of the lens or sunshade, so could be used, many several have done so

I have the xs II with the screw on lense cover. If I opt to replace that with a butler creek flip up, should I make a center hole the same diameter as the original screw on, or is there a different diameter that others have found works better than factory size?
And yes, I realize that was an incredible long sentence.

The size needed is a 53a which has been discontinued by Butler Creek.

Too small. the size needed for the 5x20 is 2.6 inches. It does look like a #51 will fit.

The Vortex Defender Flip Cap #56 (Made in USA) fits the 5x20 . It is a flexible fit from 2.4 - 2.6 inches outside diameter. MidwayUSA and others have them for $19.99 .
