Folks, I'm confused with this thread. Perhaps it is only referring to the HD model? I recently received the X-Sight II 4k Pro (3-14x). I have the sunshade, but not a cap with a hole in it. I do not note a cap with a hole in it as part of the package contents list either. Should I have one? Would having or making one improve daytime images? Thank you, Andrew Hi Andrew, You have the new all singing'n' dancing X-Sight. This part of the forum is for the older models. Get onto the forum moderators to start a 4K section for the new kit. I don't think the cap with the hole in it is needed for your scope. It is a fault with the older units now resolved in the newer 4K. Apparently from talking to a 4K owner who also has the x-sight 2 the image out of the 4K is super clear in daylight compared to the older X-Sight that needed the disc so it's wasn't completely shite. NV image is roughly the same.

Thank you, Andrew I have the Butler Creek Lens Cap with a 7/16 inch hole on my XS2 and it works great in the daytime. My XS2 did not come with the cover with the hole for some reason and customer service ignored my email so I just bought the BC. I recently bought a 4k and put a BC lens cap on it but it's not needed, better without it. I had so many issues with the 4k I sent it back for a refund. Just an FYI, your new scope is an X-Sight 4k Pro, not an X-Sight II 4k Pro. Cheers, PB

Ah, thanks BunnyBlaster and PanicButton. Much appreciated. Now I know to drop the II, which also removes some of my confusion. Yes, the clarity isn't as sharp as regular old glass, but it's sharp enough to hunt pretty much anything and gives me night vision to boot. I'm anxious to get out in the field with it.
Thanks again, Andrew

Thanks again, Andrew As with all of these units you'll need loads of IR light to get the best of your unit. Yours might even work on "high" light sensitivity, ours doesn't. It craps out the unit. Loads of people are using different brand torches etc but most are like the T67 etc. LED Torches with big magnified objectives and 18650 rechargeable batteries. I use a nightmaster XSearcher for instance.

Thanks BunnyBlaster. In addition to the IR850 Illuminator that came with the scope, I added a "Streamlight Super Tac 850nm Infrared LED Tactical Flashlight". I'm not sure how the light compares to the T67, but it's what I've got for now. The Streamlight uses a deep dish reflector instead of an objective lens to get distance. I've only tried my scope at night briefly. But on the low sensitivity setting the two lights lit up the night at 150 yards. Hopefully, I can get out in the field later this week and see what it really does.

Has anyone found a flip open cap to fit the X-Sight II 5-20x? Was searching ebay for what everyone indicated was the correct cap for a 5~20 HD, a Butler Creek #51A. Just purchased a new Butler Creek flip up lens cap. Was supposed to be a Butler Creek 51A. To my disappointment, the cap in the package provided was not a 51A. Number provided was a 53-53A for 54 obj. Someone apparently swapped them out somewhere along the line. Seriously bummed. Until I got home. Oddly enough, a perfect fit. Looking back, glad they didn't send a 51A. Numbers inside the lens cap and around the perimeter indicated "53-53A for 54 OBJ." OBJ lens and the sun shade are the same diameter. Believe it is 68mm (2.67") O.D. Butler Creek specs on the cap indicate a 53~53A is 2.640" I.D. Not sure if the old 51A is the same as the 53A, but the 53A is the correct Butler Creek lens cap for the ATN X-Sight II HD 5~20. Shoot Straight

I installed a butler cap on my 4k Pro 5-20 but the quality is worse. If you've ever used a butler cap for 4k Pro 5-20, tell me what the quality is like. It seems to work only on 4k Pro3-14.

Has anyone found a flip open cap to fit the X-Sight II 5-20x? Also going to have a piece of killflash laser cut to 67mm to fit inside between the cover and the hood of the 53A. Like $9 on ebay. Shoot Straight

Hi guys. New to this forum and to digital scopes. I have been shooting night vision for 30+ years on the military starlight and infrared scopes(AN/PVS-2, 4, TVS-5 and pas-4. Started on a SET 1 20000. Our government has been doing night vision since 1941. Their scopes all have a variable 3 hole day cover for sighting in. In the large aperture multi-intensified scopes the light must be reduced in proportion to the daylight intensity for the tubes not to flare, and the reticle to be visible. These covers also greatly increase the depth of field, focus and overall clarity. Included is a link to EBAY for the AN/PVS-4 lens cover. Probably isn't the right size for the ATN but the design is consistent with any number of other military scope covers. The metal part in the center front of the cover has the same holes sizes in the same place as the cover but will turn to vary the light allowed to enter the scope. There is also a red infrared filter/intensifier sandwitched behind the holes in the cover. www.ebay.com/itm/New-PVS4-Daylight-Cover-AN-PVS-4-Night-Vision-Scope-Lens-New-2009-production/261501012844?hash=item3ce2accb6c:g:v5YAAMXQVT9TEv4bAs usual your mileage may vary and my 2 cents may have fallen through the hole in my pocket. Be safe!

I did not get the aperture plate with my scope. It is the 5-20 and I am ordering the #56 Butler cap for it. Can anyone tell me how big the hole should be for the aperture??

andrewlindsay Hi Andrew, I believe certain models (like the Opmod version that bundles the battery pack etc.) do not include a lens cap (similarly, the cable from the battery pack to the scope is a flat white cable not a coiled black cable like with the 100% ATN version)...just the luck of the bundle. I have ordered a cheap Chinese lens cap to try out as any branded parts are usually 50% to 100% dearer in Australia. I mostly got the cap to keep dust etc. off the front glass but will drill it if it looks like it will improve optics.

I got a used X-Sight HD II today off eBay and the ring with the hole and sunshade are both missing. I called ATN to order new and alas. They are obsolete and discontinued. I.E. No Parts for all our scopes. If they break they are unable to refurbish due to lack of parts. They are made in China..hint hint. I am going to use the Butler Creek Cap w/a 1/2" hole and perhaps fabricate a sun shade out of Gorilla Duct tape. Hell nothing gets away w/out duct tape. I may paint cardboard black as the tube if a piece of PVC don't fit.
It is scary to know if you drop you scope and damage these parts, your just plain out of luck....
