Jacob, I'm not sure how to post a link to the Amazon app here using my iPhone, but search for "Butler Creek Flip-Open Objective Scope Cover" and it should come up. Select the size: 39 (2.22" , 56.4mm) Current price is $10.63. Hope this helps!

I did this with a 1/4" hole and it seems to work well. I have not tried it on night vision but the day image seems sharper. Anyone know what the ultimate hole size should be?

Wokman, the hole in the factory screw on piece is approx .5" (12.7mm) diameter, so that's the diameter of the hole I put in my Butler Creek cap. However, if the .25" hole you put in your cap works, stick with that!
One thing I did find was that since the original peep hole was designed to screw into the end of the scope, not the end of the sunshade, that if you put your home made one on the end of the sunshade with a smaller diameter hole, you may lose some of your FOV.
At least it appeared that way to my tired eyes 🤓

As I posted elsewhere.... Put the aperture on the front of the sun shield (shade), as this increases the depth of focus more than putting it directly on the objective.

Wokman, I keep my flip up on the sunshade as that seems to provide me with the best view, but I reckon each shooter will figure out what works best for them...sunshade or no sunshade...factory peep or flip up...or not.

slonline, another poster said butler creek no longer makes the correct size. You might try this: The Vortex Defender Flip Cap #56 (Made in USA) fits the 5x20 . It is a flexible fit from 2.4 - 2.6 inches outside diameter. MidwayUSA and others have them for $19.99 .

Just Message ATN on face book www.facebook.com/ATNNightVision and state you didn't receive the sunshade and adapter with hole in it and they will give you a email address to provide your information such as xsight/xsight2 model and address to send the parts too they will send you what you didn't receive with your original purchase but is now included with purchases and you will receive it within 5-8 days as I have for all the stuff that has changed or been added.

so help he out here to understand all this a little better. In my package with the X-Sight II 3x14 I did recieve the metal cap threaded with a hole in it. Am I suposed to have this on when using night mode. My main objective is to scan farm fields in the dark and pick out Texas mud bugs(hogs). What actually is it's main function/purpose and benefits?

Yes - it should be in the pocket tube velcroed inside your bag. If it is not there ring ATN and ask them to send one out.

Using it during the day gives you a much longer focal length - less focusing required and quicker picking up your target. Dont use at night. Also prevents washout if yo are looking towards the sun at a target.

Oh, ok I'm glad I asked. I was under the assumption to use at night for better light gathering. So if I am mainly hunting night, just leave it off and save it!

Hi Guys, Has anybody got an exact outer diameter measurement for the objective handy. Something measured with a vernier calipers. Sorry for being so fussy but I'm going to make or buy a way of mounting my torch on the objective. Want to have it made before scope arrives. ARMS#17 QD mount just purchased :-) , all the bits starting to come together! Cheers, BunnyBlaster.

Thanks Brainzzz, What scope do you have, 3-14X? I've since got mine a 5-20X which measures @ 68mm. I was looking for that dimension a while ago to make a mount for my torch that fitted on the scopes objective. Results posted somewhere around here lol Cheers, BunnyBlaster

I received my Butler Creek #39 a couple days ago and made some comments but it ended up in Xsight User Mods. Is there a way to move it here?
Thanks, PB

Thanks, PB Update 10/10/2017 My original post ended up in User Mods, here a link to that: atnowners.com/thread/410/butler-creek-lens-capTook a few snapshots using the scope with a 3/16th inch hole and then drilled to a 7/16th inch hole. They were taken in the late afternoon and it was overcast. It is much better with the 7/16th inch hole for sure, it's not pink (low light) and it's more in focus, the edges are much sharper. These were taken at 5x zoom at 60 feet. Cover closed 5x 3-16 inch hole.jpgCover closesd 5x 7-16 inch hole.jpgCover open 5x focused.jpg Cheers, PB

I wanted to do a video test with the cover up and down. It currently has a 7/16" hole. Below is a Youtube link to a short test, it was late afternoon and overcast.
The cover is up for the first 13 seconds, then down till it gets to 28 seconds, then up again till the end. When the cover is down, the video quality and focus is much better.
No, I did not shoot the bird.
Cheers, PB

Folks, I'm confused with this thread. Perhaps it is only referring to the HD model? I recently received the X-Sight II 4k Pro (3-14x). I have the sunshade, but not a cap with a hole in it. I do not note a cap with a hole in it as part of the package contents list either. Should I have one? Would having or making one improve daytime images?
Thank you, Andrew
