I am interested in buying an X-Sight. I found a used 3-12 HD. But I'm curious if I should spend the extra and buy a Gen 2. Can anyone give me a breakdown of the differences? As well as an informed opinion on the better version for the money.

I havent seen a Gen 1, but do like my Gen 2 even with the foibles that they currently have - which will be worked out hopefully in software updates.

Gen.2 have better Weaver mounting (strongly fixed with prismatic rail), Ballistic calculator, range finder, Angle corrections. Gen.1 have wider field of wiev (+3 deg in 3-12), compact size, more wide and bright display, TURBO-mode!
make your choise! =)

I have the 3x12 and saw a 5x18 I can get at a good price. I wanted to know is the day time picture the same seeing that they are both gen 1 or does the newer 5x18 have a less grainy day time look? any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I look at this question of gen 1, or gen 2 like this. Would you want to buy a old computer? I have a old 8086 computer in my basement, would you buy it if it were cheep? It still works. The gen 2 has more options, runs faster, and the picture (with the new firmware) is just getting better every time new firmware comes out. The only question I would have, is when is the gen 3 coming out? It should be even better.
Just my $.02 ...

I have both gen.2 3-14 and gen.1 3-12. yes, fw .747 made picture bright in High mode but already slower enough.. Most interesting question for ATN is real magnification in gen.2. Specifications gave us wrong numbers. 3-14 is in reality 5-20 and 5-20 is 8-32. but I like both my sights. gen.1 looks more solid. gen.2 have some teenage unfixed bugs, hope they will be fixed.

bottom line is don't buy used ATN will not honor any warranty!!! unless u don't care about the money and can turn right around and buy a new one like money is no object.
also the G2 is far superior and has the updated processor which will support all functions present and future unless for some reason they make a G3 that has functions which the processor will not be able to incorporate such as internal self contained LRF so you can use the LRF at night as well as day time by looking through the scope nv vice having to mount it on the scope and align it as I have to enable the range data for the BC to pop them yotes at night since the LRF has no nv capability!
