One year after the introduction of the compact FLIR ONE thermal camera, the technology has been fully integrated into a smartphone. The result is the CAT S60, a collaboration with Caterpillar, and the first smartphone on the market with FLIR's thermal imaging built-in. According to Caterpillar, the device can "pick up heat and measure surface temperatures from a distance of up to 50 to 100 feet" and see through smoke. Rugged and waterproof, the CAT S60 is targeted towards engineers, construction workers and inspectors and will be available summer 2016 for $599. I wish I had seen this before I ordered my FLIR Scout at $500+. Although the S60 does look a little short on range. I see why they are targeting that group. I guess I'm not so sorry after all.
Speaking of technology, has anyone heard when the ATN X-TRAC is due out. Seems to be running late. I have a pre-order in on it. Can't wait to try that out along with LRF-1000 that's on the way.
Edit: Maybe I should make a separate post on the X-TRAC.
