I am trying to decide between the gen 2 x-sight and the Thor thermal. Does anyone know if zombies give out a heat signature as I don't want to get caught out  when the shtf.

It really depends on the type of zombie. Undead slow zombies (i.e. Walking Dead zombies)wouldn't give off thermal since they are dead. Now, if your talking Rage virus infected fast zombies, (i.e. 28 Days Later)they give off tons of heat because they are still alive and have really amped up metabolisms. So unless you know which type of zombie you are going to be dealing with, you need to go night vision since they will all show up on it. You don't want a slow zombie staggering up and chomping you cause you brought the wrong optic.

Well, even if Zombies don't generate heat through some biological process like living animals do, they will likely give off heat due to the decomposition process. I can tell you that dead bodies give off a significant heat signature for days after they are killed. Even if it isn't from rotting, they will likely soak up and give off heat from the sun better than surrounding vegitation.

During the day, temps of the surroundings will wash out any useful heat signature. 

Buy them books, send them to school and what do they do?

Buy the wrong damn optic !!!!

Thermal is the way to go. I can see many things at night that don't "put off heat" grass and whatnot. There is still usually a small temperature variance. During the day you'll be able to them with your eyes and find them in the scope.

The whole Zombie Thing is a Sci Fi twist on a definite possibility of the civil unrest of the mass population going nuts trying to find food & drugs,fuel ect. after society collapses! It's a well known fact people will act like animals trying to survive! Especially when they are starving when push comes to shove a person will stoop to doing anything to survive! Even if it means CANNIBALISM OF THEIR Friends & Neighbors! Hence the Military term of "Zombies" came from this scenario...

Now alot of you might argue and say OMG what if a virus takes over!

Like Duh! . . . If a virus does turn you into a raving lunatic your still going to have a heartbeat til you are DEAD!!! & TRUST ME AFTER THAT YOUR NOT GOING TO BE A PROBLEM ANYMORE!!!

So the clear choice is to BUY A THERMAL SCOPE so nobody can sneak up on you even in the night,fog or smokey conditions... Or worse yet a combination there of...

And furthermore for all you idiots that bought a nightvision everyone can spot your IR illuminator with a non illuminate military starlight scope from A mile away & take your dumbass out!!!

You might argue on the point I can't use my Thermal during the daytime, Well guess what with the latest update #667 a crisp ultra clean image is now possible even in daylight so when the Government comes to your neighborhood to take your guns using smoke grenades so you can't shoot them I'm going to laugh because with my AR-10/SR & MY ATN THERMAL... I AM THE BADDEST MOTHER F***ER IN THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH!!! & I FEAR NO ONE !!! LMAO...

Now if I do need a day scope I will break out with Big Bertha a 50 bmg with a Millett SR 6x36x56 scope & drop you like a bad habit @ 1.5 miles away...LMFNAO!!!
