SUGRU PORT COVER
Sugru is moldable silicone that turns into rubber when exposed to air. Sugru sticks permanently to nearly all surfaces, including ceramics, glass, metal, wood, plastic and fabrics, and is strong, flexible and durable in all weather conditions when cured. Because it is fairly cheap, easy to use and electrically-insulating, many X-Sight owners use it to keep water and debris out of their micro USB/SD/HDMI port when using a battery pack.
Supplies needed:
- Sugru packs (x2)
- Tape (Scotch or electrical)
- Release agent (Vaseline or soapy water)
- Small brush or cotton swab
- Paper towels
How to apply Sugru:
- Ensure your X-Sight micro USB/SD/HDMI port is dry and free of debris. Use a paper towel to wipe clean.
- Cut a piece of tape long enough to cover the microSD and micro HDMI ports and place firmly over ports.
- Plug in your battery pack to the micro USB port.
- Apply your chosen release agent to the port using a brush or cotton swab. Ensure to cover the port threads and outside edge.
- Cut open packs of Sugru.
- Roll the Sugru in your hands for 30 seconds or until moldable.
- Mold the Sugru firmly into and around the port cover and battery pack plug and cable.
- Ensure a smooth surface finish using a splash of soapy water.
- When done, leave the Sugru to cure for 24 hours.
- Once cured, wiggle and remove the Sugru plug from your X-Sight.
- Remove the tape from over the microSD and micro HDMI ports.
Important notes:
- Sugru is also available for purchase at Lowes, Target and other select retailers.
- Only buy enough Sugru for what you need. Sugru is only fresh for 13 months once made.
- Sugru can be difficult to remove once hardened.
