This is as good a place as any to get the ball rolling for any modifications anyone has come up with to make their X-sights work how they want, we all have different priorities when it comes to our shooting equipment, and one guys dream setup is anothers nightmare!
There is no "perfect" firearm for everyone, just as there is no "perfect" sight, whether optical, digital or thermal, and that's what makes any pastime, sport or hobby so interesting.
Manufacturers do their best to cater for the masses, and at a cost everyone can manage, and I think ATN have managed to do just that with the X-Sight.
I'd like to mention here, that around 20 years ago, I myself actually designed a digital scope (admittedly without NV) that had an inbuilt rangefinder and on-board ballistics calculator for instant reticle adjustments, plus the ability to record what was seen, I spent quite some time defining all aspects (in function not the technical side) and drawing out detailed schematics, before approaching some companies to see if it would be of any interest and worth getting a patent for (I couldn't afford the patient process myself at the time) one in particular from Germany, so I sent everything off for appraisal after the normal confidentiality agreement etc.............................and I'm still waiting!!
I'm not bitter (much ) but I am glad that ATN have managed to come up with something better, I just wish technology would have allowed it back then, and I look forward to where it will take us next! (enter stage right........X-SightHD MkII, BinoxHD, SpotterHD & ThermalHD)
Now, down to the reason for this thread, as you will know by now, I'm a bit of a handyman/DIY/inventor/tinkerer sort of guy, and I like things to be how I like them, I hack nearly everything.
Most of you who have come over from the X-S Owners FB page will have already seen my mods video, but I'm putting it here also for everyone else to check out, I had no idea how much interest the SUGRU port cover mod would get, and I must apologize to ATN for airing it only a few weeks before the unveiling of their own cover at the Shot Show, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they saw it?
Other mods I've seen on the forum have been just as inventive, such is the spice of life?
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, here's the video;
