I am currently debating on buying this scope. Question I have is if I dont the ABL or the atn rangefinder, howw would I range a deer? Does the smart rangefinder built in scope actually work. I cant seem to find a video of someone using it or any good information. Thanks

It is old school where you put a line on top of target of known size and then on the bottom of the target. You have to have the gun really steady almost like in a vise and know the exact size of the target .

Not sure this will help you since I’m a couple months late, but I used the built in range finder today. It was accurate to within 4ft of my vortex range finder. I set an 11x8 paper target out at 50 and 100 yds. As stated you need to know the height of the target for the range finder to work, but if you know the height it is very accurate, it is susceptible to your movement but I was able to hold it steady enough using a bipod to get accurate results.

I am currently debating on buying this scope. Question I have is if I don't the ABL or the atn rangefinder, howw would I range a deer? Does the smart rangefinder built in scope actually work. I cant seem to find a video of someone using it or any good information. Thanks I bought the scope and the ABL 1000 last week. The scope is great. The ABL1000 connected first go without any issues and ranged well and accurately (tested against my nikon rangefinder) but then it disconnected yesterday and I haven't been able to reconnect it. I sent ATN a note last night and called the dealer to get some help. ATN hasn't responded yet and the dealer's night vision specialist is coming back to me on Monday. Based on my experience the scope is excellent. the 5-20x range image quality is great (I leave the sunshield on all the time) both during the day and at night. The IR illuminator is a little underpowered, probably fine for 100m (110yds) so have ordered a foxpro gunfire as a replacement, which should take it out to about 450m (500yds) which would be longer than my capability. If I can't the ABL to resync, I'll return it and get a standard rangefinder and add in the data manually via the menu system. Ballistic calcs seem ok. If someone helps resolve the issue, I'll keep it as it is convenient and quick to use for automatic adjustment but if it died in the field, I'd be pretty annoyed. If anyone reading this can assist the re-pairing (have already tried to hold the bluetooth for 20 sec, factory reset scope etc) the ABL to the scope I'd be over the moon. In summary - scope is great, the enhanced (digital) zoom goes to 50x but is pretty grainy - would be fine for steel at distance but hunting would be dodgy. at 20x excellent. I could read a number plate at 300m on 35x so enhanced is not too bad - just not sure relying on it for an accurate location on an animal would be feasible. nIf you have a standard rangefinder - just change the distance manually and it works fine. Hope this helps
