Download the manual from ATN.com - you have a steep learning curve ahead of you.

Once you look at the manual online, it’s a simple process, but you will need an Infra Red illuminator attached to the side of the unit to see anything clearly. Lots of vids on YouTube etc...good luck.

I think you need to get an Ir illuminator. It will not operate in night without it.
Get one and then select night vision.
The manual will help.

I think you need to get an Ir illuminator. It will not operate in night without it. Get one and then select night vision. The manual will help. The scope actually does function without an IR light. The IR light is only an external light source used to enhance lighting in low or no light conditions. Mine functions perfectly in full moonlight. Actually better than the IR, as it is not range-limited like the IR light. Can't reach deeper into the shadows without it though. Open field in the moonlight though, no problem. Not sure why your NV wouldn't be functioning thru main screen setup though. If the screen setup doesn't change state from Day/Nite when selected, that's an issue. Possible firmware update required. Should function. Some posters have indicated there is an actual DV/NV plate inside that has to physically shift positions. Perhaps the plate isn't shifting. Some people have also reported that they actually have to slap the side of their scope to get it to shift. The instructions however, do not cover this particular slapping technique. But not sure if that was related to the actual setting not changing state to NV or just the plate not shifting. Suspect the latter. May need a trip back to ATN for some special Lovin'. Fortunately, mine functions correctly, so I don't get to slap it around. Yet. Did drop it about 3 feet to the grass though. Hey....Maybe that's why it works. Shoot Straight

This is an XS2 right - not the 4K Buckhunter? Maybe throw a pic up of the unit to make sure.

Mine has worked in the moon light but I never plan on that. We all know as hunters, plans can change. My "no IR" NV experience was prompted by a dead battery in my IR 850 PRO. Didn't really plan it that way. Just played with it too much on the deck. You know....New toys. Though because of the (almost full) moonlight and open field, it wasn't an issue at the time. Thought it was a little bit dark. Couldn't see real deep into the woods. Had to actually look at the IR light to see that it wasn't on. I always carry an additional IR battery into the field now. It did work though without the IR light. Just not as bright. And wouldn't look into the darker areas that require the additional IR light. It will even work with a flashlight, but that light source is actually visible to the naked eye. IR is not. The kool part is that it actually picks up the IR flashes on my multiple game cameras in the woods at night and alerts me of incoming game and the direction it's coming in from. Shoot Straight
