My compass was locked in a single direction with no error messages. I rotated it in all three axis as described in the manual for re-calibrating the compass and that worked. So you might try that.

I am having the same problem, latest firmware installed and now showing ERR on compass, if i can find an older firmware i may be able to down grade it, with a hope that will fix the issue.

My compass has a few issues and I pretty much don't pay attention to it. But, it works when it works...lol I have noticed it will display ERR when pointing straight down and then I'll wait a few seconds and then bring it up to see if it clears. Sometimes it does but has the wrong direction.
Anyway, if you rotate the crap out of it in at least one axis, it 'should' display CAL and then you can rotate it through the three axis as described. Hopefully that will help. But, once in each direction doesn't always seem to fix it. I read one post that had folks rotating it in each direction twelve times.

I am a bit clueless on the ERR message, so if it is showing ERR, its ready to do the Flipping and Turning thing or is there a Place in the Setup Menu somewhere you have to first initiate the procedure?? Mine shows ERR always, never seen it change to anything else. I have the X-Sight 4K Pro 5-14 Scope.

There's no real logic to the Err message, just keep flipping, twisting and turning, eventually it goes away and the compass works! Mine went from stuck on "N" , to "Err", then to "CAL" then to "Err" then after more turing in the 3 axes it suddently started working and correctly shows South , East West. just keep flipping an turning! I took it off the firearm and took off all the mounts to make it easier to turn.

My new Thor 4 2-8x when turned on the compass did move for a second, stayed on N and then went to ERR. I looked on this site because the owners manual and the video (atn) states ERR would be a damaged scope, requiring it to be sent back? ? However, he also said he had never seen this??? Ok, I did what guys on this site said in my kitchen being very careful turning a $3,000 toy in the air (we all know we could drop it). The first couple of times of trying all this in my kitchen and nothing worked. Note, kitchen/den is where we live (tv, cable, wifi, all electrical fields around). I decided to go to the bedroom on the opposite side of house and stood over the bed not worrying about dropping it now while standing over the bed. I rotated it end over end quickly about 15 times and peeked it said ERR I was like, ok. Then i helicoptered it about 15 times again fast, then twisted it about 15 times and the compass now works. I turned it off and back on in the bedroom to double check and it was spot on. I walked into the kitchen/den to see if there was a problem there and no problem in there now. I think mine was not spun quickly enough as I was very carefull while in the ceramic tiled floor area. Standing over your bed dissolves all fear of dropping your scope and should be written in the manual, for all to have. Good luck
