After reading the manual, and presumably following the instructions, I still cannot get the illuminator to function in the "General mode". The switch simply shuts on and then off. It will not toggle between low, medium, or high. It appears to be operation in what ATN calls "Tactical mode". I hate to send this back as I just got it and I'm sure I'm the one missing something here. Have Any of you had this issue and if so did you find a solution?

Mine was shipped in Tactical Mode. Had to change spring and brass collar to put into general mode. Worked perfectly after that change.

I have put the ring and spring in the front near the lens cap and still nothing. What is the difference of spring locations between the two modes?

I don't know if this topic/issue is still a concern for you guys as these posts are a few months old. I was having a few issues myself having only just purchased mine, but after carefully reading and comprehending what I was reading, I got my illuminator to function in general mode quite easily. The key word in my last sentence is COMPREHEND, understand what the instruction is telling you to do and doing it. 1) Firstly, the spring ring and spring positioning. Buy locating the SPRING *RING* to the lens end, before the SPRING, you are simply altering the distance at which the battery tube will tighten (It is acting as a spacer). You will notice that there is now about 1/16" or so gap between the battery tube and the lens assembly which was't there before. (This takes the place of the 1/2 turn loosening of the battery tube instruction that is required when the IR is in Tactical mode setup) 2)Go into a darkened room and depress the on/off button enough to activate the red light but not click on, do this while holding the IR torch at an angle so that you can see the red light reflecting on the internal side wall of the illuminator (Don't look directly into the torch). Now depress and release the on/off button without clicking it to cycle through the 3 power settings. You will clearly see the intensity change. 3) Once you see the brightness level you want, hold and press the on/off button all the way in until it clicks, then hold for 3 seconds and release (Level saved). the IR torch will stay on at that level every time you turn the IR torch on. In the field you will do exactly the same sequence only this time you will see the intensity level through your night site.

I also just received the IR 850 Pro and mine too was in tac mode. I reversed the spring and now mine has all 3 modes. Pretty easy to see at night in a dark room, that it is changing.
