Hi, I am new to the forum. I live in CO but hunt a lot in TX. I have been using an x-series II in 5-20 for over a year on a .308 with great results in TX hunting hogs and predators. My only issue was the 5 power setting field of vision was still too narrow when predators came in real close, like under 20 yards at night. It was hard to find the fast moving animal in the dark at close range. I recently purchased the Thor 384 1.25-5. I am hoping the 1.25 power will give me a wider field of vision for close up shots, and good images out past 100 yards. Can those of you with Thor 384 night hunting experience comment on your use in regards to field of vision and clarity are different distances, say out to 150 yards? Thank you for your time and Merry Christmas.

I've shot a pile of hogs with my 1.25 x 5 and do like the FOV it offers. I will say that i just moved up to the 2 x 8 because I am hoping for a little better clarity at the 100+ yard shots. The reduction in FOV is pretty minimal so I think I will be happier with the 2 x 8. Headed to GA for hog hunt next week so we will see.

Thank you, I will be hunting in TX last week of January for about 10 days and will update my Thor experience. Last night I was able to view horses in total darkness at about 80 yards with 1.25 and I was very happy with the field of view and clarity on the big animals. I was using white hot. I later had my wife and jack russell dog (about 15 pounds)stand in a dark parking lot. I then walked away and took Thor video and pictures at 25 yds, 50 yds, 75 yds and 100 yards. It appears the field of vision and clarity are pretty good at the lowest power, 1.25 and it gets very pixley (if that is a word)at 3-5 power. At 1.25 power I think I will have no issues shooting small predators as I call them in under 50 yards. I am hoping it will be good for hogs or larger predators around 75-125 yards. I will give an update end of the month. If anyone has setting recommendations for me to get started I would appreciate it. Settings such as contrast, color, thermal sensitivity, metering mode, (matrix or center) etc. I appreciate your experience and comments.
