I bought an external battery from atn, the white one with 2 USB ports and a charging port between the usb's. it has 4 white lights that blink in different sequences. All 4 at once, or 1 at a time, moving up a light on each blink. Atn didn't give a descriptive manual, so I'm wondering what the lights mean, and how I know when the battery is on or off. Also, can I run the scope without aa batteries, and just the external battery?

I run mine on just external with no issues. My external is not an ATN one though.

If you are running the external without the internal AA batteries, you generally have to "wake up" the external by pushing the button on the base (or side) and then power-up your scope as usual. If you wait too long to power-up the scope you will have to "wake" the external battery again.

Yes, this battery needs the button pressed to wake it up. The 4 lights show the state of charge. All 4 is full.

Do I need to press the side button again and gen I power down the scope? Or does the battery turn off itself after no use?

After a period of inactivity the battery will turn itself off automatically.
