Hi guys,
I advise especially the new guys to download and print this guide. Place a copy in that nice green bag that you got with your scope!
X-sight 2 Problems WITH THE solutions!
First off, this is not a “how to use your scope. It is simply a guide to powering it up for the first time and successfully installing the updated firmware. From there, you will be ready to set your scope as YOU want it. It also contains some common problems with solutions along with some very good tips that can save you from having problems in the first place if you choose to listen to it.
READ THE MANUAL THAT APPLIES TO YOUR SCOPE! OR RTFM (Read the F______ Manual)
I do not claim to be an expert with the X2 BUT because I can follow directions, I have been able to take it out of the box, update the firmware, zero my scope (at bottom of doc), record both day and night videos and pictures all without a hint of a problem.
Unfortunately, many others have not been able to say the same and it’s for them and the other new owners that I decided to compile all the issues along with the “fixes” into one document to make it easier for those who either cannot or will not search on their own before asking questions. So in that respect, I’m also doing this for the guys that have to answer the same question over and over and over again!
First, if you have just received your scope, you can eliminate a LOT of issues by NOT even installing the mobile app until your scope has been fully set up!
You will very likely have a successful setup experience IF you follow these simple instructions, IN ORDER. Remember to ALWAYS press the center button once to bring up the EXIT icon BEFORE you press and hold the POWER button until the “Shut down the device?” sign comes up, then press left button to shut off. Failure to do this may cause you a list of issues. This scope likes to be shut down properly.
1. Buy a micro-card and don’t skimp, buy a name brand, Class 10 of at least 32GB although anything over 4gb will work. I have used a 32gb & 64GB Sandisk without issues.
2. Take the brand new micro-card and insert it into the adapter and slip it into your Desktop’s USB port.
3. Format the new card, UNCHECK the box that says “fast format”. You want a completely formatted card, not the “fast” version. FAT32 format. (Now that you’ve read this..many believe using the scope to reformat your card is best but if you aren’t comfortable doing so, use the desktop to reformat it)
4. Go online and download TO YOUR DESKTOP COMPUTER the latest firmware update. As of March ’17, the version ends with 747.
5. Now copy the firmware update to your newly formatted micro card.
6. Next, carefully insert micro-card into your new scope. Not sure which way it goes? BE GENTLE and don’t force it if you don’t know which way it goes….here you go, it slide into the REAR of the slot opening, with the copper contacts first, facing the BACK of your scope. The stenciled side should be facing the front of your scope.
7. Insert 4 brand new lithium batteries into your scope and fully tighten the cover, being careful to the polarity and position of the batteries.
Or connect your external power-pack.
8. Press AND HOLD down the “POWER” button on your scope for 5 SECONDS! Once you see the screen light up, let go of the button and it should update each part of the software and will restart upon completion.
9. You are now ready to setup your scope. Read the online manual & read the guides provided on the forum under the X2 folder at the top of the page.
If you want to install the batteries and power on the scope by using the first part of instruction #8 just to make sure that it powers up before doing the firmware update, do so but do not press any buttons unless you know exactly what you are doing. When you are ready to shut it down, be sure to press the center button to bring up the EXIT icon before pressing the power button until the “Shut down the device?” sign comes up, then press left button to shut off.
Take this advice or not but don’t cry when the app/scope are setup differently causing all kinds of conflicts (problems)!
Once you have successfully updated your scope with the latest firmware you will be ready to install the app in your phone but be forewarned, the app is a bit sketchy and will sometimes crash if for instance you receive a call or text while it’s running etc. It does work though so even if it defaults to its “restore factory settings”, don’t give up, shut it down completely and initialize it again. I once had to close & reopen it four times before it reconnected to my scope and recognized the settings I had already set in my scope. So don’t get frustrated easily! Be cool and you will be successful.
Useful information
;
Side note: make sure that when you close the app, it’s not still running in the background. Open the “programs running” setting on your phone or tablet and “clear all” or “close all” depending on if you have a iPhone or Android.
Side note: One of the first things that you should do is to understand the menu system that ATN uses, take your time and back out of each submenu.
Side note: Under “Settings/Settings” go to “Device type” & enter your scope…either the 3x14 or the 5 x20. That will ensure that the rest of your settings apply properly!
Side note: Be sure that your manual range setting is set the same as the sight in range!
(the Word version of this has nice orderly columns for problems & solutions)
PROBLEM/SOLUTION
Mounted external powerpack…
caused shutdown of scope when going to video- Change the USB-MicroUSB cord
Stuck IR filter-won’t go back to color from NV- Give the site a sharp slap on the left hand side with your hand(may take multi-attempts)
Can’t find PASSWORD- Shows up in opening screen or use “atn_obsidian”.
Rav active-won’t manually record- Not a prob, just how it works. Disengage RAV to manually record.
Scope always starts up at base magnification- Not a prob, just how computers work
Zero setting won’t hold- Be sure ballistics computer off when setting zero.
Scope looks pixilated- excessive zoom will cause this. Back off the zoom.
I can’t sight it in at full zoom- Of course not, back off the zoom to where you can clearly see your target.
Scope shows red SMF message- Go OUTSIDE-turn on & rotate scope on all three axis to recalibrate the compass
Scope reboots in a loop- As soon as “ATN” screen appears, hit center button 5 times quickly, then go to “factory reset” and reconfigure
Scope locks up!- Same as above
My scope died within an hour or 2- Internal batteries are really useless for much more then setting up and “playing” with your new scope. Get a REPUTABLE external power-pack of at least 16,000MaH. Some use Kentil lithium rechargeable’s but buy the 2,800 or 3,000 mah if you do. They should work for 3-4 hours straight w/ everything “on” or longer in sleep mode.
Unable to hear audio from vids- Download the VLC media player and use that to view your videos
Can’t change altitude of scope- Not a prob, just how it works (gathers info from internal barometer & GPS)
I can’t connect Bluetooth to my phone- Not a prob, it is not fully supported yet.
I connected to HDMI-scope now locked Two fixes:
screen flickers once every second-no buttons work- Press and keep holding the power button until it fires up and says do you want to shut the unit down.
Press NOTHING, leave it as the system is actually running. As soon as you press anything it will go into the infinite loop
.
Connect vi the obsidian app and select factory defaults.
Let it reboot and start from scratch.
&
As soon as “ATN” screen appears, hit center button 5 times quickly, then go to “factory reset” and reconfigure
.
Screen locked after trying to
enter targeting / range finding info- Do factory reboot, if it fails try one of the above two fixes
Screen froze after the ATN logo appeared- Press the menu(center) button 5 times when the ATN screen appears- factory reset
Switching from day to night, screen lights then
turns black- This is safety feature because sensitivity is set high and the ambient light is too bright. Reboot per instructions above for screen freeze
My scope won’t turn on with external battery- Replace USB cord (many will not work with the X2, find one that will. USB’s come in “power w/data& power) Anker power cable has gotten good results
Scope turns off when I shoot my rifle - Remove, clean the contacts and replace your battery cap, it is too loose
Scope works fine in day more but gets very
dark in night mode- Turn on IR light, remove sunshade(extension with hole) or replace batteries
My Firmware update doesn’t complete or hangs- You must use a class 10, name brand micro-card (I use a 32 & 64GB but 32 is plenty big. Follow instructional at top of page!)

Zeroing by the Numbers
(The only optional step is number eight
)
1) RTFM (Read the fricking manual)!!!
2) If you have just done a firmware update, do a factory reset to clean any corrupted data. Double check to make sure the ballistics calculator is turned OFF. It will interfere with the zero process if you leave it on.
3) Select your scope or device type in Settings.
4) Select the Profile you wish to zero.
5) Zero "Range" can be whatever is convenient, do remember you'll want to be able to see bullet holes at the lowest magnification.
6) Make sure all data for the profile you chose are updated. Bullet weight., muzzle velocity, scope height, BC, etc..
7) Don't forget to measure and enter your scope height! Center of bore to center of sight (+/- 1/16" is good enough, closer is better).
8) Bore Sight, if possible. Some rail adapters have adjusters for elevation.
9) YOU MUST START AT YOUR BASE MAGNIFICATION (3X or 5X)
10) Select "Zero reticle." in the profile.
11) Shoot a round. Move the colored reticle to the bullet hole. DO NOT "ZOOM" TO LOOK. Hold the white reticle where you aimed originally.
Click "Enter." Select "Save and Exit." This is the coarse zero.
12) YOU MUST FINE TUNE: To fine tune, Select "Zero Reticle." This time Zoom to your highest STANDARD (14x or 20x) magnification. Fire a shot, move the colored reticle to the bullet hole, Click Enter, Select Save and Exit.
You may now repeat the fine tune process until you are satisfied with your zero. After you are happy with your zero, you may turn on the ballistics calculator and input the range at which you are shooting and the environmental data. If you did everything correctly the ballistics calculator will compensate for drop and wind drift and you should not need hold off. Don't forget to update environmental settings when the weather/wind changes significantly.
Note: While the "one shot zero" is a nifty little feature it is still better to shoot a group, zero on the center of the group and then shoot another group and fine tune on the center of that group.
