Hello, I've seen a few posts regarding the optic powering down between each shot. Some have suggested tape around batteries? Has anyone else continued to have this issue? How did you fix it? Thanks

Not sure about the tape, but I've read here that ensuring the battery cap is on TIGHT will pretty much eliminate this problem. Or you could do the really smart thing and get an external battery. RAV Power makes great ones that'll last for hours for under $20.

Are you able to power on the optic on external battery power as well? Or is AA needed for power on?

You can (and many members do) solely use external battery power to on your XS. I haven't put AAs in my XS2 since I bought it in June 2016. Leave the AAs in your range bag or pocket as a backup.

No red showing of the O ring above the thread on the cap when it is done up correctly.

Got here a little late in the game but wanted to add my experience. I was having the same problem with my 3-14 even with the external battery hooked up. I had to remove the batteries completely. Apparently the unit defaults to the internal batteries. With the batteries in and the cap "loose" it would still shut down even with the external battery plugged in. Removed the internal batteries, problem solved.
