Hi All Have purchased a DPMS .308LR G2 with a 24" barrel. Could not say no at the price. With the 24" barrel it is awesome at longer ranges and is grouping nice, however for scrub/bush hunting it is a bit nose heavy for my liking and to be useful at the shorter ranges we get when stalking. Mostly under 80m rarely over 200m. Been a modular system I am after a little advice from guys experienced with this platform - black guns are all very new to me. This is a replacement for an old Rem mod 742 Woodmaster 30.06 which I have basically worn out, had it since I was 18 - I am reading the the DPMS is a little different from other AR10 platforms and that parts are not necessarily inter-changable. I am thinking that a shorter barrel with complete upper assembly - including bolt carrier group - may be the way to go. That way I can have optics setup on both barrel assemblies and field change quickly as needs require.
Am I on the correct path and what other parts/ assemblies will work with the DPMS G2 platform? Am thinking a light 16" or maybe 18" barrel assembly to complement the 24" I currently have.
Any knowledgeable advice appreciated.
Merry Christmas odin

I have a DPMS G2 hunter with a 20" bbl. I love it, it runs great, and hits the target great. If I were to go shorter I would look at the G2 compact hunter bbl (if it fits) at 16". I love my 20" and will not go any shorter, buts that's just me...
