Hi Guys Have purchased a DPMS .308 LR G2 AR10 to replace my old Rem mod 742 30.06, which we have finally worn out and retired. It has a 24" bull barrel and is clover leafing at 500, which is pretty awesome. it is just a little nose heavy for my liking for stalking in the bush. I am thinking to get a 16 or maybe an 18" barrel and complete upper assembly, carrier bolt included so that it can be field swapped with the 24" one in just a few seconds. This would give me rifle that is good out to say 300 with the 16" and 1000 or so with the 24" - best of both worlds as I could leave optics setup on each top assembly. It is proving difficult to find what I want down here and I am getting indications that standard AR10 top assemblies are not necessarily going to be compatible with the DPMS G2 stuff. Information on this and reputable sites to buy and get information from would be appreciated. This whole 'black' gun thing is a little new to us and a steep learning curve. Cheers odin Attachments:

I am in school for gunsmithing not as a career, but for a fun side gig. I will tell you that assembling an upper will likely be the best way to go. It is a super easy process and allows you to get exactly what you want. Unfortunately AR-10s are not truly standardized, although most of the market has centered on the DPMS style and more recently the DPMS G2. All you need is a G2 upper receiver, barrel, and hand guard. I would use the same bolt and charging handle in both if it was me unless you planned on changing calibers with the different uppers. If you are still looking I will do some searching at some sites I use and see what they have available in stock and pass them on to you.
