You know you can use WiFi to see the sight's view finder via the ATN Obsidian app on your iPhone (or 'droid). You also know that while advertised as HD visual, the view thru the X Sight 2s tiny LCD screen isn't near as crisp as the view thru the app on your smart phone once you get beyond about 4 or 5x, and mine degrades significantly above 6x. So while I've complained that the newest (3.0) version of the app distorts the view thru the app view finder, I've created a solution to being able to view your target in real HD on a 4.7" or larger screen (vs the X Sight's 1" LCD screen) without having to prop your smart phone and trying to aim and shoot. If you have tired old eyes like mine, or wear glasses that don't work well with the rubber eye cup, this homemade mount works like a champ, and makes your view of your targets incredibly crisp and clear, albiet still slightly distorted until ATN fixes the app! The 4th & 5th photos are of a dock and pontoon boat approximately 900 meters across the lake. The last two are the shoreline approximately 200 meters across the cove. When clamped to the IR light mounting rail on the side of the scope, the phone sits directly above and slightly in front of the control buttons, allowing you to assume a more natural shooting posture behind the rifle with the iPhone mounted directly above the X Sight. My rifles are a Mini 14 and an LR308, so the kick goes from negligible to quite a bit, and I've had zero issues with the mount itself or the phone coming loose. Viewing the phone screen in bright sunlight is a non-starter due to glare unless you fabricate some sort of hood for it. And forget about using it at night. It'll light you up like daylight. I created this mount idea to be used in a somewhat controlled environment where you won't be taking the chance that the phone could come loose from the mount and become damaged or lost. For me, it's simply an easier way to see what I'm shooting at. And it's taking a pretty cool tech device and making it .... techier? .... coolier?

Have you tried using a thin sheet of clear green or red plastic to cover the phone at night to reduce glare? A friend of mine built his own night vision set up and uses a 4 inch screen from an after market back up camera used for a car and he uses the red plastic on the screen at night he seems to like it. By the way I like your set up what did you use for the clamp that holds the phone?

Hey Taw - thanks for the suggestion about the red/green film. Makes perfect sense to dampen the 'glow'!
The phone mount is a 'Cell Phone Tripod Adaptor' I got on Amazon for about $8. Really holds the phone securely even with the .308 recoil.

Unfortunately, the Obsidian app stops working when I touch the viewfinder. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy SII with OS 4.1.2 so until I can figure out the problem, no streaming.

I have the Gen11 5-20 and downloaded the latest 619 firmware. I am not getting an indication that I can stream video to my IOS IPAD I think I am missing something or didn't do something
Any suggestions greatly appreciated Thanks TOM

Tom, Have you downloaded the Obsidian app to your iPad? Assuming the app works with iPad. If it does, it's a relatively easy process to sync the XS and the app, and have a crystal clear view.

I only use an iPhone, so I've no experience with the pad, but the workings should be identical.
Once you're connected between the XS and the iPad, one of your options on the sliding menu should be "Viewfinder" (an 'eyeball' icon). Tap that icon and in a few seconds you should be viewing on the iPad what you're seeing through the scope's viewfinder.
Might not be much help, but it's all I got 😎.

I have an X-Sight II with the 619 firmware installed. The iPad software is the same as the iPhone. But streaming video quality stinks! It works intermittently, looks grainy and blotchy.
I have other issues, but I won't post them here.

Nice post. I'm hoping I can get the scope to operate with a small iPad or my iPhone. My tsired old eyes have macular degeneratio. This may extend my ability to defend the neighborhood from rats after fruit and avocados. Thank you. Fred

Fred, using the app to view your target will significantly improve your shooting in my opinion. The view thru the app is no longer distorted and is crystal clear now.
So get out, hook up your phone to your XS and rock on!

Don't see any way at all to livestream to my Galaxy S7. Can take pics and video and play on the S7 via the obsidian app, but that's all.
Edit......AHA!!! Found it. Just had to find the right icon......viewfinder. Doh!!

You know you can use WiFi to see the sight's view finder via the ATN Obsidian app on your iPhone (or 'droid). Very nice mount idea. There appears to be no way to stream to the phone while recording video at the X-Sight. There is no reason that the phone application should be incapable of recording video as streamed (other than the obvious one that sometimes the Wifi connection sucks). Is there a means to record at the camera while streaming to the phone? I would expect that to be so CPU intensive that it can't be done... but if there is a way I'd like to know about it.

Thanks Spook. I've tried a couple of different ideas to record while using the obsidian app, but to no avail. Maybe a future firmware update will allow it.

If your using a newer Samsung phone (I'm using a Galaxy S7), you can record the viewfinder in the Obsidian app using Samsung Game Launcher app. You can add the Obsidian app to the list of games, which allows you to record HD video of whatever is playing on your screen (ie. Whatever you are viewing in your scope.) This allows you to record your viewfinder without having to record to your scopes SD card.

You do have to open the Obsidian app from within the Game Launcher app for the record screen function to work. ***Correction***: Simply starting the Obsidian app, after you've placed it in the Samsung Game Launcher list, initiates the record screen functions automatically.

Hi all just joined today and already some great tips, thank you all my scope just cleared customs today so should have it before Christmas. Just want to mention that I bought an imuto power pack 20000mAh and order a cheap neoprene armband for a mobile to strap it to the rifle, the power pack also has the percentage digital read out on the front so you know how much power it has used great little item £21 from Amazon and a pack of sugru mouldable glue for making the weather plugs so I am looking forward to tinkering with it all when it gets here sooo I hope I don’t get annoying when I start trying to pick your guys brains if you don’t hear from me before have a great Christmas and I will catch up in the new year

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has attached the atn rangefinder to their riffle... something like the nightsite rangefinder?
Smart phone... I find a lag when streaming. I bought a phone site attachment off amazon that allows me to view the atn screen thru the camera. Quality is lower, but no lag.

Rob Hi Rob, I did this: I had made the threaded insert for an SD/USB cover but never got around to finishing it so when I got the rangefinder I found another use for it!!! The reason I didn't use the picatinny on the left side is because I'm a leftie and the bolt throw would hit on that side. Works fine, stays in line with the bore and can be moved up and down slightly as the distance changes but to be honest most of the time it's well within the field of view during night use. I think Alan 3D printed one too.

Bunnyblaster, how have you got a rail mounted on top of the xsight?? That would solve a whole heap of issues for me!

Hi phoebus89, I did a write-up of how I made it but not sure where it is on the forum, it is a tripod collar with the shoe drilled and tapped with a piece of picatinny bolted on to it. Totally a homemade job. I just measured the OD of my objective lense and ordered according off the web. Handy to make! BTW sorry for the delay in posting, I haven't been using my X-sight as I sort of lost interest in hunting/NV thing and reverted back to target shooting again. A new rifle coming should bring the X-sight back to life again for me Cheers, Bunny Blaster
