Got my Thor 4 384 2-8x thermal in today. Charged it, checked firmware(the firmware on mine was actually newer than what the website even offers), mounted and zeroed it in, used it for 3 or 4 hours and turned it off. Went to turn it back on a few minutes later and nothing. Of course customer service is closed and the chat on the website is useless as they are just sales reps. I read lots of reviews on quality control but figured as popular as these things have gotten it had to of gotten better. So now I am out $2200 on something I cant use. I really don't want to play "mail tag" back and forth with an optic that cost this much. Anybody else had this problem? Everything worked fine until I turned it off and then tried to turn it back on which I had already done multiple times. Seems with the quality control issues maybe the customer service should be 24/7. Needless to say I am very irritated. Loved the scope for the 3-4 hours it lasted. It isnt recoil related as it was put on a 17 HMR. Just really ticked right now.

Problem solved I hope. Mine was shipped with firmware 511 which isnt even available on the website. Updated via computer and 510 was installed all seems well right now other than not being able to calibrate my compass. But the compass isnt a big deal as i pay zero attention to it anyways.

Got mine Friday and went through the process. My compass is jacked I get NO option to downgrade to 510. Which I would do to get the compass back.

Had the same problem with my Thor 4 I purchased in April with the Compass stuck on North, giving ERR or SMF error messages. I found a post on this forum about calibrating the Compass which worked. Here is the excerpt from that post that worked for me:
*Compass stuck on North (N). *Compass showing Strong Magnetic Field (SMF) when no electronics are around. *Compass showing Error (ERR).
Please follow this procedure to perform a throughout compass calibration:
First, turn on the scope and wait until it boots up to the main screen where you can see the crosshairs, then:
Grab the scope with one hand and shake it hard in all possible ways for 1 full minute. Assume that you are trying to mix a bottle of water, but instead of shaking it back and forth, try to move the scope in all possible directions by moving both your wrist and arm. Don't be as gentle with the scope.
After doing that, the scope should say CAL for a few seconds and then the compass will show you the cardinal points if you move the scope around. In other words, it will be working properly.
If CAL doesn't go away, then turn off and on the scope and check again.
As a side note, this is something common on all digital devices and those issues mentioned above will be fixed by this procedure. If the issue persists, unfortunately we can either try to do the compass calibration once again, or we will have to create an RMA to bring the scope in for warranty service.

Trailhiker,
Thanks for the information you shared.
I spent over 30 minutes on the ATN Support Chat option yesterday and they did not solve my problem. Specifically, my scope would not display the "CAL" string and ATN's support kept giving me instructions to "calibrate" the compass. Despite my efforts to emphasize that my problem was that the scope would not display the "CAL" string, ATN Support ignored this information.
Regards, Charlie K
