After installing the newest firmware and conducting a factory reset, my compass now says ERR and won't clear. I noticed mine does that if I turn it in while the rifle is pointing down. I haven’t don’t calibration yet.

Completed the software update for the 4K Pro 3X14 and now it says ERR. Spoke to Tech support and they told me to do the compass calibration but do every rotation 13 times. Nothing worked and he says it maybe an issue with the new firmware but hasn't been confirmed. Really hope they get that fixed.

I had the same err code. Talked to the tech guy he walked me through the correction. Follow the compass calibration setup but do each step 12 times. 12 times merry go round 12 times Ferris wheel 12 times rotate like a tire
CAL displayed and I waited a few seconds and the compass came up.

I've had my 4K for 3 months. Compass has ALWAYS just said north. I wasn't SUPER worried about it, but I did want it to work. Today I put the 510 firmware in and decided to exhaust all options before calling ATN, and found this thread. Well,, my shoulders are going to be sore after swinging a 13.5 lb rifle around for awhile BUT. After the first round of 12 for each, it said CAL. First time that has shown. Did it again, HAPPY DAYS!!!!! It worked guys. Thank you to all the people that posted how to fix this issue. Hopefully the firmware update takes care of some other minor issues as well.

After installing the newest firmware and conducting a factory reset, my compass now says ERR and won't clear. I updated my 4k pro to the 510 firmware. it did same thing. last resort before sending it in.... i noticed that.. when first 2-4 seconds of turning on the the compass is on and if i keep scope shaking (moving) it it stay on for 2-4 seconds...so I turned on kept shaking (not calibrating procedure) then quick look, shaking, look for about a minute.. last look i saw cal....... boom i was so happy....

okay, back up and running... I went to the ATNCorp.com website.... used the help chat.. it said to spin the scope on its axis in half circles back and forth, left and right.. It went to CAL... I then recalibrated it, 1 spin each direction and seems to be working fine now....

Another unforeseen glitch. I live out in the middle of no where. My shooting table set up is in a shade protected area next to my hay barn containers, and under 2 small wind turbines. Tried to sight in my rifle using the X Sight. Got an EMF note. Gads, under 2 small wind turbines, I am getting an electro magnetic frequency error? I mean, come on.. Like the guy who was having problems next to an electric fence, how more glitchy can these instruments be? Whats next, friggin sun spots?!! I'm about ready to pack this thing up and send it back for a refund. I have spent hours and hours trying to make it work, and my frustration level is off the chart. And I'm an engineer! Did you return your X Sight 4k pro? I am going through problems with the ATN X sight 4k pro's . ATN has replaced mine 4 times. Still having weird glitches. I realized that even the QD mount affects the scope compass. I am very patient, but as you , eventually you realize its just not going to get better. Lol . I don't have 10k to spend on a real night scope with all the features that the X-Sight potential. Do you know of another scope that works like it should? Unfortunately , ATN has serious problems with their products. Eventually they will get tired of replacing the scopes as I tire from lost hope.

If I don't, and never have until today, calibrate the compass, I always get the EMF error eventually. Not sure if I got the error because I don't bother to calibrate, but I'm going to give it a try and see if that helps with other issues.
I had tried calibrating it before, but never realized until reading the post from Freedom, what ATN said to do was the easiest way to get it done. Fire up the scope and rotate the gun from 3 to 9 o'clock until CAL shows up. Then it was a full turn in X, Y and Z and the compass worked.

Tech support responded to me. Hold scope in center and move in figure 8 like an airplane. Brought scope into CAL mode then move end over end spin like merry go round then either spin on centerline axis or flip on 45. Sounds ridiculous but works everything for me. Thank you soooo much, this worked for me. Thanks again.

After installing the newest firmware and conducting a factory reset, my compass now says ERR and won't clear. During my first use, I was having same issue. Had to hold the power button down for 15 seconds to do a power down. Powered back up and worked OK. Hunted two nights and had that problem, 3 times.

Hello everyone, just got an X-Sight 4K. Did everything they said to do. And before I did those things the compass worked, Obsidian 4 did not. Updating the firmware was to correct the Obsidian 4 connection. It did not. And it created a continuous ERR for compass reading. And a heading stuck on N. Once you turned the scope off/on. I never got a CAL indicator. After reading this forum, I tried everything suggested. Nothing worked. I gave up on the rotation of the axis, after re-reading the comments. It seemed it didn’t matter what you did, as long as you kept it moving. So I sat down and started watching some DVM show while twisting the thing back and forth. After checking the screen a couple of times, it showed CAL !!! I then did one twist in each axis, in the direction indicated in the manual (pg.11) And now the compass indicates the direction pointed toward. Which should raise another question… Is It Magnetic North or True North?

half these problems would go away if ATN just made a menu item called "Calibrate Compass" . you select the menu item, do the rotations until it's happy and be done. We do it with drones all the time, its very easy.
Half the problems mentioned above seem to be in getting the ATN to go into calibration mode, this is easily solved by a simple menu item and firmware update.
Millions and millions of drones have this feature, its been around for many years, there is plenty of sourcecode online to manage comapsses, I have written source code for about 5 different electronic compasses. its the least tricky part of their system
I have given up with all the rotations until they fix their firmware. (this is my firt ATN scope - new out the box)

I spun the thing for like an hour with no luck. What worked was turning it on and just shaking the crap out of it for like 45sec and cal showed up. Then ran through the rotation.

I had the same issue. You need to calibrate by rotating the device on the three-axis. Make sure you rotate it 3 times on each axis and when you rotate halfway though look through the scope and if the ERR code changes to CAL, stop and start over again with the calibrate by rotating the device on the three-axis again and this should calibrate the compass and have it work correctly. This worked for me.

Did firmware update on 2/12/22 Compass went into error looked up and tried all the calibration mode set up attempts, tried for about three hours, nothing. Finally read the post were the guy said he was pissed, turned it on and just shook it for 45 seconds. well, i was pissed, turned it on and did the figure eight for about 45 seconds. Sure enough, went into calibration.
Don't get to pist guys, just man handle the thing!

Dang! I was right there with gunrunner219. Firmware update yesterday. Took my Thor 4 off the rifle last night, walked out in the middle of a field, and did all the different gyrations people have mentioned, A LOT of gyrations. No luck. Did the same this morning and BAM! It finally worked! BUT, I walked around with it awhile tested looking in different directions, and decided to turn it off and back on again after to make sure it would recalibrate. Now it's stuck on SMF I am 40 yards from the nearest structure. Nothing on me but a pair of sweats. I went back to flipping and turning and spinning, turned on and off a couple times, did a hard shutdown, more gyrations. Half hour later no change.. still SMF. I'm beyond feeling really stupid out there flipping this damned thing around in the air. Keep on flipping and turning? Any other suggestions??

I spun the thing for like an hour with no luck. What worked was turning it on and just shaking the crap out of it for like 45sec and cal showed up. Then ran through the rotation. I'd been struggling with this for a couple of days... I tried everything, rotating the beast until I was blue in the face. ERR..... ERR.... ERR... Nothing worked. Then, fed up with the frustration, I just grabbed one end of the thing and shook it back and forth as hard as I could until my arm wore out. I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained. I looked in the scope and presto! No idea what happened but the slow rotations did nothing for me... So, chalk up one more shaking the crap out of it to fix the ERR in the compass. Jim

I know I am late to the party here. I do not up my firmware unless I have an issue and well I broke that rule and updated it and well I also got the Compass error. I followed all the advice on this board. Spin it 3, 5, 8, and 10 times on all axis. Do the Airplane. None of that worked. It only kept displaying err. I was just going to just let it go as I got frustrated with it. Finally today I went back to it. I reset the scope with the factory firmware where you have to download the ATN Firmware Update program and use the USB-C cable. It went back to the orig firmware. I then got the cal for that firmware. so I calibrated it. I then got the compass. I then decided to do the update again. It now works with the new firmware. I really feel the first firmware did not sit right the first time as 1 of the recitals was not working before but is now.
Just a little friendly help from me

i ***** you not, the shake for 45 sec actually works. i tried everything and nothing until i got so frustrated that i shook the ***** out of it and bang. it works. but as mentioned earlier in the post every problem would be solved with a calibrate compass in the settings to force calibrate.

I had the same issue and tried all the above mention solutions I tried the thre-axis, fgure-8 and the 12-axis methods, none of them worked. I then tried the 12-axis method as fast as possible and it worked!

Thanks board. Got compass. Shaking method works. I kept sight like a bottle and Quickly moved up and down usually as obtaining more gas in the bottle. On 30 sec observed Cal, then as manual calibration
