After installing the newest firmware and conducting a factory reset, my compass now says ERR and won't clear.

I'm having the same exact issue. The manual mentions the ERR code, but does not mention what to do to fix it.

You need to calibrate the compass. Check it out here. Best Regards Dino

I had the same issue. You need to calibrate by rotating the device on the three-axis. Make sure you rotate it 3 times on each axis and when you rotate halfway though look through the scope and if the ERR code changes to CAL, stop and start over again with the calibrate by rotating the device on the three-axis again and this should calibrate the compass and have it work correctly. This worked for me.

G'day All,
I live on a small farm and raise cattle. Hence I have electric fences. Sitting out looking for foxes near one of my fences results in both my X-Sight II and 4-K showing the error message. Similarly when sitting out looking for foxes at night way out in the middle of a field on the farm of a neighbour I received an error message. On a later day-time visit I realised that there was a major underground power or telecommunications line just near where I had been sitting.

Was on phone with tech support they said merry go round, ferris wheel then on a 45 between the 2. 1 Time each. I used Roys 3 times each and it finally changed the ERR to CAL and just kept rotating till the compass came up. Thank you!

I have tried these suggestions, all while scope mounted to rifle. Cant get this err to go away. I only installed firmware because for some unknown reason to me, the scope locked up 3 times in last two days. Its middle is rut here and didn’t want to do this but seemed only option. I have scope working &!have reloaded profile, repaired ABL, & reset everything else in could find. I wanted to know if anyone re zeroed after all this ridiculously invasive stuff. I have a date with a buck & damn sure don’t need any equipment or confidence in that equipment style issues. Thanks for any input.

Tech support responded to me. Hold scope in center and move in figure 8 like an airplane. Brought scope into CAL mode then move end over end spin like merry go round then either spin on centerline axis or flip on 45. Sounds ridiculous but works everything for me.

Another unforeseen glitch.
I live out in the middle of no where. My shooting table set up is in a shade protected area next to my hay barn containers, and under 2 small wind turbines. Tried to sight in my rifle using the X Sight. Got an EMF note.
Gads, under 2 small wind turbines, I am getting an electro magnetic frequency error?
I mean, come on.. Like the guy who was having problems next to an electric fence, how more glitchy can these instruments be? Whats next, friggin sun spots?!!
I'm about ready to pack this thing up and send it back for a refund. I have spent hours and hours trying to make it work, and my frustration level is off the chart. And I'm an engineer!

And now for, in true Paul Harvey form, "The rest of the Story". So, I moved my rifle, lead sled, shooting platform, away from the turbines. Booted up the scope, entered in my calibers ballistics, took a shot, went to the target to observe shot placement (POI), went back to the newly relocated "bench" to move the reticles, and the scope was dead. As in off. As in, would not reboot, even tho the batteries were at full charge. Moved the unit back into the house, plugged the charger back in, observed a "glow" in the site window. Would not restart. Left it plugged in for 5 minutes, unplugged, rebooted. Viola, scope comes back to life, indicates battery at full charge. Must be made in Mexico, and needed a siesta.
Back in frustration mode.

Before the firmware update the compass had stopped working altogether and was jammed in SW position.

I'm a new owner and had the same issue after firmware update... THANKS ROY! for the info... it worked after a few tries... just had to be persistent. I found that I was going too slow/being too delicate. I tried with a little more force to get the gyroscopes or whatever is in there working.. and it switched to CAL finally. I repeated the circuit at a rapid pace and it was g2g! Thanks so much!

I had the same err code. Talked to the tech guy he walked me through the correction. Follow the compass calibration setup but do each step 12 times. 12 times merry go round 12 times Ferris wheel 12 times rotate like a tire
CAL displayed and I waited a few seconds and the compass came up.

I performed the procedure jroberts said worked. I felt like I was on a military drill team with it mounted to my 7mag. After completing the above the scope displayed "CAL" for a few seconds and immediately returned to ERR. This sux Looks like it works for some and not for others?
Update; I repeated the process using only 3 of each and saw CAL I immediately performed 3 each again and was SUCCESSFUL! Damn

This worked great. Twelve times each way as fast as I could fixed the err.

Had the ERR issues with my new one, got it, unboxed it, did a firmware update and the ERR message appeared, tried the 3 axis fix but nothing, just read further down this thread and noticed the figured of 8 waving it about method
1st time CAL appeared then ERR again, did it a second time the the compass came back, so all sorted now
thanks you

You need to calibrate the compass. Check it out here. Best Regards Dino Dino,
great tip. Worked fine. It seems that, when you start the procedure, the scope recognize that it has to push itselves in "calibration" mode. Thanks for the tip/
