I own a 4K Pro 3-14x... an upgrade from an X-Sight II that I previously had. I know that there isn't consensus as to whether or not the 4K "needs" a lens cap with an aperture hole for daylight use, but I find that I benefit from it. In any case, I made a simple template that fits the Butler Creek 48 OBJ flip cap so that it's a simple matter of centering the hole, and thought I'd share it here. Just print out the pdf with no scaling on an 8-1/2x11 sheet of paper, cut out one of the circles, place it into the open flip cap of the Butler unit, and use a nail, drill or punch to mark the center (or drill right through the center). Piece o' cake :-) precisionrifle.net/ATN/ATN-cap-drill.pdfThese aren't my videos below, but they show the need is fairly obvious on the 4K 3-14x, though less beneficial on the 4K 5-20x: On the 3-14x: On the 5-20x:

G'day concorde,
Thanks for posting the information about lens caps and depth of field. I'll make a cap for my 4K 3-14

You're welcome. I just updated the PDF (same link) so that it now shows how the template fits into the flip cap.

This is a great help with the clarity. What size hole did you end up drilling in the cap?
