Rotate flat flip and flip on 45 3 times each. If you see CAL. Start over and keep going same pattern. Worked for me Thanx . It took me a sec to figure it out but that fixed my err problem..thank you very much . Working great now .

I have a brand new ATN 4K pro day/night. Compass just says ERR. I have flipped rotated all 3 axis x y and z and even tried the 45 degree rotations. Sometimes when I turn it on it acts like it is going to have a compass, but within about 2 seconds of turn on it goes to ERR. I have only had it for about 2 weeks and cant get it to calibrate or work.

Somewhere on this site I read to merry go round 12 times ferris wheel 12 times, and spin the tire 12 times. At first I thought this is the dumbest thing I have heard, and figured some guy was at home snickering at people actually trying this. Well, IT WORKED!!!! I had tried the 1 turn thing, and then even tried the 3 turns on each axis thing with no luck. So today I did the 12 turns on the X axis and then 12 on the Y axis and then 12 on the Z axis at a very fast rate. (someone else had stated to do it fast) It WORKED! So if you see anyone asking pass this on!!!

Yep. I did it today also while I had the gun broken down cleaning it and it worked for me as well.

I'm having an issue with my compass. I was working fine when I first got the scope earlier this week, but for the past 2 days all I'm seeing the SMF error. There is no magnet near the scope and they only thing that has changed is I received the remote, paired it to the scope and attached it to the rifle stock. Anything I can do to clear this and get the compass back? Thanks... I had the same issue, tried the 3 axis and didn't work as I'm sitting at my desk in the house (tried it almost 10 times and tried the circle 8s, the blah blah blah), simple fix was walking out to the deck in open space and trying the 3 axis (mind over non-sense) and after the first try of 3 axis, it worked, looked through the scope and showed CAL (from ERR), then I performed 3 axis one more time (front to back full turn flip, then left to right full turn horizontally, then right to left full spin/rotation in the hands, BOOM, DONE.

Try this. It worked for me. This is an email from ATN.
the following symptoms are directly related to the compass system when it needs calibration data: *Compass stuck on North (N). *Compass showing Strong Magnetic Field (SMF) when no electronics are around. *Compass showing Error (ERR). Please follow this procedure to perform a throughout compass calibration: First, turn on the scope and wait until it boots up to the main screen where you can see the crosshairs, then: Grab the scope with one hand and shake it hard in all possible ways for 1 full minute. Assume you are trying to mix a bottle of water, but instead of shaking it back and forth, try to move the scope in all possible directions. Don't be as gentle with the scope. After doing that, the scope should say CAL for a few seconds and then the compass will show you the cardinal points if you move the scope around. In other words, it will be working properly. If CAL doesn't go away, then turn off and on the scope and check again. As a side note, this is something common on all digital devices and those issues mentioned above will be fixed by this procedure.

I am having an error that a number of others have also reported: the red ERR status...it appears to have started when I updated to the latest firmware (v. 3.1.12.510)
In one of the ATN support videos, the guy states that this red ERR is when their is a "critical error in the compass" and "the chip would probably break and that's when you would get this error"...And that's it! That's all you get from support...?!?!?
I note that some others on the forum have said that they fixed this problem by rotating the scope on 3 axes 12 times, but I have tried that and it doesn't work... I tried "rotate flat flip and flip on 45 3 times each" but does nothing... Some say it will go from ERR to CAL...nope, never seen that...
And every so often, the scope just freezes and/or buttons don't respond...I have to power off by holding down power button for 10 seconds or so...
Am I missing something? I just cannot get rid of the error!

I've been having the same issue. Tried rotation and everything else I could find on this problem. I did the shake it like a water bottle trick and it finally works. Thanks gsapatka 😊
