Received my X-sight 3-14X four days ago. For the record I love it...but have a couple of questions. I have noticed that there is a predictable impact shift between Day/Night mode, buttons are often unresponsive, and compass is stuck. Is this common? In the field it would be unlikely I could get the unit to turn on in a hurry. Power key doesn't respond until it is pushed at least 10X. Record button often takes 5 or more to start recording. Trying to establish if I have a bad unit.

All the units are bad. Did you update the firmware? How are you pressing the power key? You're suppose to hold it down until the ATN logo shows on the screen. To power off, press and hold the power key until you get the shutdown question displayed. Video record is disabled if you have RAV turned on. My 5x20 showed the record in progress but stopped when I took the first shot. After that, video record wouldn't turn on until I disabled RAV. Also, what batteries are you using? Did you download and read the manual?

Yes. I read the manual and performed the firmware update. Reading some of the other posts it looks like everyone has some little thing that isn't quite right. I will get used to the idiosyncrasies and just enjoy shooting. Thanks for the reply.

After some troubleshooting I found that the power up issue is only when on external power supply only. As long as AA batteries are installed, this is not a problem.

I am having the same issue on mine where the arrow keys become unresponsive and the compass does not function at all. Batteries were reading low though they are practically new (I have run this unit maybe 30 minutes max since I bought it). The batteries are ordinary energizers. Tried booting up on USB power and that didn't really improve anything. Turned off WIFI and Bluetooth and that seemed to help a little, but the poorly responding key issue returned soon. I think it is power related and those batteries must be just a bit too weak out of the box. Will try another set soon and see if that cures what ails it.
Have a Streamlight IR Illuminator on order today. That should give me some more range. For a minute with the stock unit going, the picture was pretty nice and I was getting significant range out of it. It got grainy quickly though.

You were probably lucky to get 30 minutes out of standard alkaline batteries and many problems are due to lack of power. Use nothing less than Li-ion batteries. Do NOT use NiMh batteries as they don't supply enough voltage. The rechargeable Kentli Li batteries seem to be the rage now but be sure to use the special Kentli charger with them or you could damage the regulator in the batteries. They are expensive but everyone claims the power is near endless. I use one-time Energizer Lithium in the scope and an external 10000mAh power pack. I've yet to change the Energizers and have used the power pack at the range for several hours without it even dropping an indicator. Except for some new-to-me equipment problems, the scope has performed flawless.
The power button MUST be held down at startup until the ATN logo appears. The screen will light up a couple of times, go black then the red ATN logo will show up. You can release the button at that point. To shut down, press the power button until the shut down confirmation appears then select Yes.

Thank you Texasken.
Kentli Lithium Ion AA Batteries and Kentli charger are on order now. I will limp through with the alkalines until the Kentli's get here and are charged.

Thank you Texasken. Kentli Lithium Ion AA Batteries and Kentli charger are on order now. I will limp through with the alkalines until the Kentli's get here and are charged. It eats AA's, good move with the Kentli's. They will pay for themselves in a blink!
